A Race to Remember

The 2025 Battle of the Bush Final was run over 1200m during the Tattersall’s Tiara Raceday, bringing together the best country-trained horses from across Queensland. With over 16 qualifiers held across regional towns, this final is the ultimate test of talent rising from the bush.

Peshwa started at $14, not the favourite—but with Angela Jones on board, he showed true grit and timing. After finding clear ground in the straight, he surged late to win by a nose over ‘Under The Limit’ in 1:10.75, with the final 600m clocked at 35.68s.

Angela Jones: “He wanted to lay in down the straight, so he was a bit tricky to steer—but once the third horse bumped us, it straightened him out and probably helped us get there.”

Trainer Lindsay Hatch: “He’s not the easiest horse to ride, but Angela was brilliant. I’m still shaking—this one means a lot.”

It was an emotional win for Hatch, who had previously faced a potential suspension earlier in the season but bounced back with what’s now one of the biggest wins of his career. Moments like these are what racing is all about.
